Water efficiency - Why conserve?

Learning to use water more efficiently preserves the resource for future generations and will save you money. Did you know that only one percent of the earth’s water is usable and that our fresh water resources are running out faster than we can replenish them?

A recent government survey showed at least 36 states in our country are anticipating local, regional, or statewide water shortages by 2013. What’s more, water tables in western Kansas have dropped 100 feet in the last 60 years. We need this vital resource for building activities on the grounds, bathroom, and more.

However, the more water we use, the more energy is necessary to treat and make it usable. Reduce the amount of water you use and watch your water and sewer bills decrease. Start today, by checking the faucets throughout your building for leaks and fixing them. A small drip can waste four to five gallons of water a day or 1,460 - 1,825 gallons a year!

The Home Energy Saver™ (HES) empowers homeowners and renters to save money, live better, and help the earth by reducing energy use in your homes. HES recommends energy-saving upgrades appropriate to the home, and that make sense for the home's climate and local energy prices. HES also estimates the home's carbon footprint and shows how much it can be reduced. Visit the calculator»
